Decades ago, the world was forever changed by The Paradox Event—a catastrophic moment where time, space, and reality itself faltered. It wasn’t a natural disaster or an alien invasion. It was something far worse: a collision of possibilities, an anomaly where multiple futures fought to exist at once. For a brief moment, time fractured, cities flickered between centuries, entire populations vanished and reappeared in different ages, and laws of physics rewrote themselves. Some call it a glitch in the fabric of existence. Others whisper that someone—or something—caused it.

Despite the chaos, humanity survived. Scientists, mystics, and heroes worked together to stabilize reality, sealing the fractures before the world unraveled completely. But in doing so, they locked Neo-Earth 7 into a single timeline, a fragile path holding back the infinite might-have-beens. The scars remain—unexplained phenomena, people with memories of lives they never lived, and technologies far beyond their time. more ↓

Maverick Brain (Maxwell Runte IV)

Maverick Brain (Maxwell Runte IV) is a Weird Warrior who Ignores Physical Distance in a Superhero world

You aren’t like anyone else, and that’s fine with you. People don’t seem to understand you-they even seem put off by you-but who cares? You understand the world better than they do because you’re weird, and so is the world you live in. The concept of “the weird” is well known to you. Strange devices, ancient locales, bizarre creatures, storms that can transform you, living energy fields, conspiracies, aliens, and things most people can’t even name populate the world, and you thrive on them. You have a special attachment to it all, and the more you discover about the weirdness in the world, the more you might discover about yourself.

Weird characters might be mutants or people born with strange qualities, but sometimes they started out “normal” and adopted the weird by choice.

You can teleport from one place to another by briefly passing through a parallel dimension.

Sometimes being in the public eye so much can be wearying or even a burden, but you know how to use your reputation to set a good example and make the world a better place.

Character Introductions

Remember that one time

The rain crashed down in sheets over the neon-lit skyline of Bastion City, streaking down the glass towers like liquid mercury. In the heart of the old industrial district, Vindicator crouched over a busted security console, his fingers darting over the controls. “Still no power to the containment grid,” he muttered, his voice edged with frustration. “We need another minute.” Behind him, Dash the Hunter was braced against a gravity well she had conjured, holding a twenty-ton automated turret in place before it could rotate back toward them. Sparks danced off the pavement as Forge Man, glowing with borrowed kinetic energy, absorbed another round of high-caliber bullets from the rogue security drones and launched himself into the fray. “Yeah, well, we might not have a minute,” he called out, dodging between the ruined shipping crates.

Shatterstar blurred past them in a streak of blue light, his movements impossibly fast as he wove through the chaos. “I’ll get inside and shut it down manually!” he called, wind whipping around him as he pivoted mid-air. He smashed through a shattered window of the CoreTech facility and vanished inside. Dash gritted her teeth, sweat forming on her brow. “If he overshoots and hits the wrong thing, we’re all going to wish we were born in a different timeline,” she muttered. Forge Man landed beside her, cracking his knuckles, his eyes momentarily flashing with a power he had siphoned from the lead drone. “Yeah, but you gotta admit, watching him work is something else,” he said with a smirk before launching back into combat.

Then, the air shifted. A low-frequency hum rippled outward from the facility’s central power core, and reality itself seemed to flicker. For a fraction of a second, the city skyline wavered, replaced by ghostly images of a different era—a Neo-Earth where the buildings stood as temples of glass and light, an empire untouched by The Paradox Event. Vindicator felt his stomach drop. “That’s not a malfunction,” he whispered. “That’s something breaking through.” As if in response, a figure stepped forward from the distortion, their silhouette outlined in a violet glow. A figure that looked exactly like Dash. “Oh, hell no,” the real Dash snapped, gripping her staff. “We are not doing the evil doppelgänger thing today.”

A shockwave of gravitational force sent the enemy flying backward, but before they could hit the ground, Shatterstar zipped back into view, skidding to a halt just as the facility’s power grid finally rebooted. The hum vanished, and the city solidified back into its rightful time. “Good news, we’re back to one reality,” he announced, breathing heavily. “Bad news? I think we just made some interdimensional enemies.” Forge Man let out a tired chuckle, shaking off the last of the stolen energy. “Yeah… remember that one time we didn’t accidentally make enemies across time and space?” Vindicator sighed, rubbing his temples. “No. No, I do not.”

Remember that one time

The night sky over Neo-Earth 7 cracked with purple lightning as Maverick Brain and Captain Scarecrow Strike sprinted across the crumbling rooftop of the Orion Syndicate’s old research lab. Below them, the city was alive with chaos—fractured streets, gravity-defying debris, and reality itself twitching at the edges. “We need to shut this down before another paradox storm rolls in!” Maverick yelled, leaping across a chasm that hadn’t been there a second ago. Captain Scarecrow Strike didn’t answer. She was already lining up her shot, waiting for the rogue scientist controlling the Paradox Engine to step into the open. Her lightning-infused rifle hummed with energy. Then, the target appeared. A single, perfect shot, and the control panel on their wrist shattered into sparking fragments.

Inside the facility, Doctor Sentry was already ten feet tall, her massive frame tearing through a squad of cybernetic enforcers. “You want to mess with time? Try fighting someone who’s got all the time in the world to throw you into a wall!” she roared, backhanding one of the mechanical soldiers straight through a reinforced bulkhead. Meteorite Man moved like a shadow through the chaos, his powered armor shifting seamlessly between brute force and precision. He placed a small disruptor charge on the core of the Paradox Engine. “This place won’t hold for long,” he said through the comms, his voice calm despite the surging energy distorting everything around them. “Maverick, we need a way out—now.”

Maverick Brain gritted his teeth, his strange, unanchored connection to space-time pulling at the edges of his mind. He had an idea—a wild one. “Get close to me, all of you,” he shouted. As they gathered, he closed his eyes, focusing. With a sudden, impossible lurch, space folded around them, and the team blinked out of existence just as the lab collapsed into a spiraling, paradox-infused void. They reappeared in an alleyway three miles away, winded but alive. Doctor Sentry clapped a massive hand on Maverick’s shoulder, shaking the dust from his already disheveled coat. “That? That was some next-level insanity,” she said with a grin. “I think I’m gonna owe you a cigar for that one.”

Captain Scarecrow Strike exhaled, running a hand through her hair. “Yeah,” she muttered, shaking her head with something that almost looked like respect. “Remember that one time we all should’ve been erased from existence, but Maverick somehow didn’t get us killed?” Meteorite Man chuckled, checking the integrity of his suit’s systems. “I’ll mark it on the calendar.” Maverick Brain just grinned, his distinct, unnatural features glowing faintly in the flickering city lights. “Next time,” he said, cracking his knuckles, “maybe I’ll even make it look easy.”

Remember that one time

The ruins of the Chrono-Vault pulsed with unstable energy, jagged bolts of blue and violet raking across the fractured ground. Monarch tightened her grip on her gauntlet, scanning the flickering remains of the paradox barrier that had once sealed the vault. “The core’s destabilizing,” she called out. “We don’t have long before this whole place collapses out of time.” Giant Metron X, already towering over the wreckage, raised her hands and conjured a spell, stabilizing the crumbling walls with raw force. “Then let’s make this quick,” she muttered. “Triplicate, you got eyes on the artifact?” From the air, Triplicate Machine hovered just beneath the vault’s warped ceiling, her silhouette splitting into shimmering duplicates as she maneuvered through the wreckage. “Got it! It’s in a containment sphere, but the shielding’s magnetically locked!”

Magnificent Zoom swore under his breath, already sprinting toward the artifact’s pedestal. “Of course it is.” He thrust both hands forward, the air around his fingers crackling as he pulled at the shifting magnetic field. Sparks flew as the containment sphere wobbled, resisting his influence. “This thing is reinforced with some serious tech! I need a few seconds!” he shouted. But before anyone could react, a rift in space split open behind him, and a warped version of the vault’s past surged into reality. Phantom-like guards from another timeline rushed forward, flickering in and out of existence. Monarch turned, already weaving a solution. “Giant, clear them out! Zoom, focus on the sphere!” With a single gesture, Giant Metron X unleashed a concussive force, blasting the temporal guardians backward like leaves in a storm.

Sweat dripped from Magnificent Zoom’s brow as he gritted his teeth, pouring everything he had into the magnetic field. The sphere trembled—then, with a final pulse, shattered apart, sending golden shards spiraling into the air. Triplicate Machine caught the artifact mid-fall, cradling it against her chest. “Got it!” she shouted. Monarch exhaled in relief, but Zoom just collapsed onto one knee, exhausted. “Yeah,” he muttered between breaths, “you’re welcome.” Without hesitation, Monarch knelt beside him, her fingers glowing faintly as she placed a hand on his shoulder. “You held that thing together when none of us could,” she said. “We wouldn’t have made it without you.” He glanced up, startled by the sincerity in her voice. Maybe it was just the adrenaline, but for the first time since meeting Monarch, Zoom felt like they weren’t just teammates—they were allies.

The Chrono-Vault rumbled, the paradox energy now spiraling out of control. “Time to go!” Giant Metron X bellowed, lifting Zoom with ease as the team sprinted for the exit. Triplicate Machine zipped ahead, her afterimages flickering like echoes in space. Monarch flicked her wrist, opening a short-range time-fold just as the vault began to cave in. One by one, the team leaped through the rift, landing hard on the rocky cliffs outside. Behind them, the Chrono-Vault imploded, vanishing into nothingness. Panting, Monarch turned to the team. “That was close,” she said. Zoom, still catching his breath, managed a lopsided grin. “Remember that one time I saved us all? Yeah. Let’s not make a habit of this.” Monarch just smirked. “No promises.”

Remember that one time

The wind howled through the skeletal remains of the Skyveil Spire, a crumbling pre-Paradox structure that seemed to exist between timelines. The four of them—Tinkerer, Warbird, Jack of Hearts, and Bolt—were already deep in the facility, ducking through warped corridors where doors led to places that no longer existed. “The coordinates say the artifact should be just ahead,” Tinkerer whispered, tightening his grip on his enchanted blade. Warbird took point, moving swiftly through the shadows. “Just keep an eye out for traps—last thing we need is another surprise.” Jack of Hearts gave him a pointed look. “Oh? Like the last trap you set off?” she asked dryly. Warbird opened his mouth to retort, but before he could, Bolt held up a hand. “Something’s wrong,” he said, both versions of him glancing in opposite directions. “We’re not alone.”

The moment he spoke, the air shimmered, and from the cracks in reality, figures emerged—hunters clad in reflective armor, their movements distorted like echoes across time. “Temporal Retrievers,” Jack muttered. “They don’t just guard artifacts—they erase people who interfere with them.” The lead retriever raised a gleaming gauntlet, but before it could act, Tinkerer sprang forward. With a flick of his wrist, his enchanted weapon pulsed, unraveling the energy field around them. For a moment, the retrievers hesitated—just enough time for Warbird to dart between them, his movements a blur as he landed a precise strike against their leader’s power core. Sparks flew, and the retriever collapsed, flickering out of existence. Bolt took the chance to split his form again, flanking the remaining enemies from two directions at once, forcing them into Jack’s path. She smirked. “Bad luck,” she said, dropping her disguise and revealing the energy blades hidden in her sleeves.

The battle was over in moments, but the artifact—a crystalline sphere pulsating with the echoes of lost time—was still unstable. “I can stabilize it,” Tinkerer said, gripping the hilt of his blade tighter. “But it’s gonna take everything I’ve got.” Warbird frowned. “You sure?” Tinkerer nodded, already attuning himself to the artifact. The room pulsed, the walls flickering between past and present, but slowly, the energy settled. The Spire held. Jack of Hearts exhaled. “Alright… I’ll admit it,” she said, glancing at Tinkerer. “That was impressive.” Warbird raised an eyebrow. “Wait. Are you saying you believe him now?” Jack smirked. “I’m saying maybe… maybe he’s not full of it.”

As they stepped back into the night, the sky above them rippling with the remnants of the paradox storm, Bolt chuckled. “Remember that one time we almost got erased from history, but Tinkerer actually pulled off a miracle?” Warbird grinned. “Yeah. Next time, let’s make sure I get the credit.” Tinkerer just shook his head, letting out a tired laugh. Jack of Hearts lingered for a moment, looking at him thoughtfully before finally speaking. “Hey,” she said, nudging his arm. “Next time you see something impossible… maybe tell me first.” He smirked. “Deal.”
